Softball Recap: Marshfield Has No Trouble Against Wausau West

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, Marshfield was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Wausau West Warriors with a sharp 11-3 win. With that victory, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Molly Fox made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Madilynn Cole and Taylar Weis did most of the damage at the plate: Cole went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Weis got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI. Those two runs gave Cole a new career-high. Madison Kraus was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Marshfield has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Wausau West, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marshfield will head out to square off against Eau Claire North at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers are facing the Huskies at the right time seeing as the Huskies are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Wausau West, they will head out on the road to take on Pacelli at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals will roll in looking for their 19th straight victory, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight.
