The Whetstone Braves will head out on the road to face off against the Centennial Stars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Whetstone comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Whetstone pushed their score all the way to 70 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 75-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of East.
Even though Centennial has not done well against Beechcroft recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Centennial slipped by Beechcroft 76-75. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Centennial's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Kal-el Faison, who scored 22 points, and Carl Koonce, who scored 25 points. Another player making a difference was Anttonyo Alford, who scored 12 points.
Whetstone's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Centennial, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-2.
Everything came up roses for Whetstone against Centennial when the teams last played back in January as the team secured a 76-43 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Whetstone since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
