Basketball Game Preview: Chiefland Indians vs. Dixie County Bears

Chiefland and Dixie County are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2021, but not for long. Having just played yesterday, the Chiefland Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Dixie County Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Chiefland is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.

Chiefland will head into Thursday's contest hoping to keep the good times rolling: they proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 40) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 34-31 victory over Oak Hall. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Indians have posted since November 18, 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chiefland to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nyasia Bivins, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 boards. Bivins has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last six times she's played. Brianna Bell was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Dixie County came into Friday's matchup having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They snuck past Bell with a 53-49 victory two weeks ago.

Dixie County's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-6. As for Chiefland, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Chiefland against Dixie County in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 67-32 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Chiefland since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
