The Christian Brothers Cadets fought the good fight in their overtime match against the East St. Louis Flyers on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 71-70 to the Flyers. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
East St. Louis' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Taylor Powell, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. Powell is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Davis Bynum, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Christian Brothers and nudges their season record down to 10-8. As for East St. Louis, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-6.
Christian Brothers and Central will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Central is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for East St. Louis, they will square off against McCluer North at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
