Brileigh Mathews was excellent, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Short, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Laney hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ashley struck out nine times.
Meanwhile, D.H. Conley got the win against Clayton on Monday by a conclusive 6-0.
Not much got past Kendall Howard, who gave up just a hit and racked up 20 Ks to keep Clayton off the board. Those 20 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Howard.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Harper Bradley, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sarah Booth, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
D.H. Conley's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Laney, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Laney has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like D.H. Conley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 15.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Laney came up short against D.H. Conley in their previous matchup back in April of 2022, falling 5-0. Will the Buccaneers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
