Baseball Recap: Lakeland Christian Wins Going Away Against Winter Haven

Lakeland Christian had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Winter Haven on Tuesday. The Lakeland Christian Vikings blew past the Winter Haven Blue Devils 12-1. Considering the Vikings have won four matchups by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Nathan Diaz made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits.

In other pitching news, Alex Arthur looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Lakeland Christian is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 2-3 otherwise.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Peyton Brenneman, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Brody Brenneman was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Lakeland Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .559. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Lakeland Christian has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. Winter Haven dropped their record down to 5-6 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakeland Christian will take on Lakeland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Winter Haven, they will challenge Wellington at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
