Croatan is 0-10 against East Carteret since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Croatan Cougars are on the road again and play against the East Carteret Mariners at 8:00 p.m. on December 5th. One thing working in Croatan's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
Even though Ocracoke scored an imposing 59 points on Saturday, Croatan still came out on top. Croatan enjoyed a cozy 74-59 victory over Ocracoke. Given Croatan's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while Ocracoke is ranked 170th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Trey Jones continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 26 points. The match was his fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Matthew Woody, who scored 7 points along with 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, even though West Carteret scored an imposing 57 points on Friday, East Carteret still came out on top. East Carteret was the clear victor by a 80-57 margin over West Carteret. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 41-18.
Their wins bumped Croatan to 5-0 and Ocracoke to 4-2.
Croatan ended up a good deal behind East Carteret when the teams last played back in December of 2022, losing 67-53. Can Croatan avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
