Parker Gibson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Vernon is undefeated when Gibson posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, Russel Smith and Caiden Coltrane did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI, while Coltrane went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs Coltrane has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Jesse Lagman, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Vernon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Wewahitchka lost 10-3 to Franklin County on Thursday.
Rhemy Patrick was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Rylan Norris was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.
Vernon's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Wewahitchka, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Vernon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. However, it's not like Wewahitchka struggles in that department as they've averaged .332. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Vernon came up short against Wewahitchka in their previous meeting back in March of 2025, falling 15-12. Will the Yellowjackets have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
