1A Special District 5 (8 Man) recap Sept. 26, 2012
Lowell was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to third in 1A Special District 5 (8 Man). Earlier in the week, the Devils defeated Yoncalla 73-24.
Crow extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Mohawk, 52-14. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Cougars.
Victor Vidal put up the best numbers through the air as McKenzie bested Siletz Valley. He finished with 12 completions for 208 yards and five touchdowns. Vidal's favorite target this week was Caleb Scrivner, who caught three passes for 71 yards.
Jalen Walton was the best wideout in the league this week as the Eagles lost to Lowell. Walton tallied seven receptions for 85 yards. Geoff Payne helped Yoncalla's passing attack out by catching two balls for 20 yards.
Tanner Eastlick was the most productive running back in 1A Special District 5 (8 Man) this week. He ran for 133 yards on 22 carries as Crow fell to Tim Pinson's team. Teammate Sam Jentzsch added to the ground attack by rushing for 86 yards.
The Eagles' Vidal and Blake Anderson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Vidal has thrown for 976 yards this season, while Anderson, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 18 catches for 398 yards. Brian Brands's team's Logan Drullinger leads the league in rushing yards with 341.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between the Cougars and the Devils. Crow comes into the matchup ranked 17th in the state, while Lowell ranks fifth.
