The Freedom Eagles waltzed into their contest on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They took down Charles J. Colgan 47-32. For Freedom, this counts as revenge for the 46-31 loss the Sharks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.
Freedom's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Keilani Johnson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. It was the first time this season that Johnson pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kenneah DeGuzman, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Loss or not, Charles J. Colgan got some senior leadership from Mya Alexander and Brianna Long. Alexander scored six points along with 13 rebounds and three steals, while Long. almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Long has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played.
Freedom is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season. As for Charles J. Colgan, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-9.
Freedom will head out on the road to face off against the Red Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gar-Field is on a three-game streak of home wins, the Eagles a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Charles J. Colgan will take on the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Virginia (Potomac Senior is ranked 145th, while the Sharks are ranked 131st).
