Basketball Game Preview: Plainfield Quakers vs. Portage Indians

The Plainfield Quakers and the Portage Indians will round out the year against one another at at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Both are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Last Friday, Plainfield got the win against Perry Meridian by a conclusive 75-50. That 25 point margin sets a new team best for the Quakers this season.

Plainfield's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Harper Baker-Lands, who went 11 for 18 on his way to 24 points and five rebounds, and Noah Smith, who went 9 of 10 on his way to 18 points. With that strong performance, Baker-Lands is now averaging an impressive 16.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton East, who posted eight points in addition to six assists and five boards.

Plainfield was working as a unit and finished the game with 28 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Portage humbled Kankakee Valley with a 70-43 victory. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-20.

Plainfield better keep an eye on Garrett Clark. He was instrumental in Portage's win, going 14 of 25 on his way to 31 points. Those 31 points gave Clark a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of O'Mari Evans, who posted 11 points and three steals.

Portage pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.8 points per game. As for Plainfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.

Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Plainfield and Portage are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Plainfield hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 57.5 points per game. However, it's not like Portage struggles in that department as they've been averaging 57.8 points.
