Kaitlyn Scholl made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Bishop Watterson got a massive performance out of Grace Mayhan, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. That's the most hits Mayhan has posted since back in April of 2024. Abby Emswiler was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.
Bishop Watterson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last four games, Bloom-Carroll finally came back down to earth on Thursday. They came up short against Licking Valley, falling 7-1. The contest marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Bloom-Carroll saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabby Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Bishop Watterson's win bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Bloom-Carroll, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 16-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Bishop Watterson hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Bloom-Carroll struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Bishop Watterson came out on top in a nail-biter against Bloom-Carroll in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 9-7. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
