Basketball Game Preview: Manteo Redskins vs. First Flight Nighthawks

Manteo hasn't had much luck against First Flight recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Manteo Redskins will be home for the holidays to greet the First Flight Nighthawks at 7:30 p.m. Both are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Manteo is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 92-56 victory over Cape Hatteras. While the Redskins didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Manteo found their leader in freshman Kai McGilberry, who went 7 of 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 29 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McGilberry has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Granitzki, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds.

Manteo was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for First Flight on Monday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Lawrence Academy out of the water with an 86-38 final score. That 48 point margin sets a new team best for the Nighthawks this season.

First Flight's win came from a few key players Manteo will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Lex Jackson, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Judah Carlyle, who had 13 points.

Manteo's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for First Flight, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Manteo took a serious blow against First Flight in their previous matchup back in January, falling 76-28. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Manteo was down 43-21.
