Hobbton gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 17-2 margin over the Smithfield-Selma Spartans. The Wildcats have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Spartans, too.
Zannah Hairr made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hairr was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Madison Sinclair was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Evalet Ramos, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-1.
Smithfield-Selma is on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.
Coming up, Hobbton will hit the road for the first time this season to challenge Heide Trask at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Smithfield-Selma, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against East Wake at 6:00 p.m.
