The Harlingen Cardinals waltzed into their match on Wednesday with 20 straight wins but they left with 21. They blew past Rivera 77-43 on the road. Harlingen has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matches by 22 points or more this season.
Harlingen can attribute much of their success to Luis Rodriguez, who scored 20 points. Another player making a difference was Ashton Barajas, who scored ten points.
Despite the defeat, Rivera had strong showings from Isaiah Cuellar, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, and Juan Juarez, who scored ten points along with five rebounds. Cuellar is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Andy Sanchez, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Harlingen pushed their record up to 26-3 with that victory, which was their ninth straight on the road. As for Rivera, their loss dropped their record down to 16-8.
Harlingen will be playing in front of their home fans against Los Fresnos at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Los Fresnos' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six games. As for Rivera, they will head out on the road to challenge Hanna at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Hanna focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Wednesday.
