The Shonto Prep Grizzlies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 66-20 loss at the hands of Ash Fork. Shonto Prep has not had much luck with Ash Fork recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Ash Fork's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gabril Zeller led the charge by scoring 18 points along with four steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Zeller has scored at least 25% of Ash Fork's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Parnell Tsosie, who scored 16 points along with four steals.
Shonto Prep bumped their record down to 1-7 with that defeat, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.3 points per game. As for Ash Fork, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shonto Prep will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Rock Point at 5:30 p.m. on January 11, 2024. As for Ash Fork, they will head out on the road to face off against Fredonia at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
