The Cardinal Mooney Cardinals will face off against the Ursuline Fighting Irish at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Cardinal Mooney comes in on three and Ursuline on four.
Cardinal Mooney came out on top against West Branch on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fifth inning. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 11-5 victory. Considering the Cardinals have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Kaden Reese, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Trent Litman was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Cardinal Mooney kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Ursuline had just enough and edged out Salem 6-4 on Monday.
Ursuline also got a great performance from Dom Polkovitch as he pitched 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits.
At the plate, Luke Kollar was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Anthony Triveri, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Cardinal Mooney's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Ursuline, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cardinal Mooney has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Ursuline struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Cardinal Mooney skirted past Ursuline 4-3 in their previous matchup on Tuesday. Do the Cardinals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Fighting Irish turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
