Basketball Recap: Seguin Comes Up Short

Seguin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 59-45 bruising from the McCollum Cowboys. If the Matadors were looking for revenge after losing 70-68 to the Cowboys when the teams met back in December of 2021, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the defeat, Seguin saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Noah King shot 73% from the field on his way to 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points King has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Tavien Miles, who posted five points.

Seguin suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 2-4. As for McCollum, their victory ended an 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-4.

Coincidentally, Seguin and McCollum will both be playing SA Roosevelt the next time they take the court. The Cowboys will host the Rough Riders at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Matadors will play them later in the day, at 4:30 p.m.
