The Mount Vernon Patriots fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Milford Tigers on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 85-78 to the Tigers. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Wednesday (72), Mount Vernon still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Mount Vernon still got an impressive performance from Andrew McMurdie, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 21 rebounds. McMurdie has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joao De Oliveira, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Mount Vernon were working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Milford only racked up ten assists.
Milford's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kielen Tsosie, who scored 28 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Tsosie has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Carson Cheney, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds.
Mount Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Milford, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mount Vernon will take on Telos at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Telos is hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses. As for Milford, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Rockwell at 4:00 p.m. on January 20th. Averaging 67.7 so far this season, Rockwell's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Milford better be ready for a challenge.
