The North Johnston Panthers fell victim to the Eastern Wayne Warriors''s stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They took a 12-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Warriors. Having soared to a lofty 49 points in the game before, North Johnston couldn't push the score so high this time.
Kaleb Pone threw for 70 yards on eight of 20 attempts. Cooper Gibson was his top target, picking up 37 receiving yards and no touchdowns.
Eastern Wayne was led to victory by Izeiah Oates and Trondell Smith. Oates threw for 220 yards and a touchdown on only 14 passes, while Smith picked up 127 receiving yards and a touchdown. Jalen Harris made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
North Johnston now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Eastern Wayne, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Johnston will take on Princeton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Eastern Wayne, they will be playing at home against Goldsboro at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
