The Leon Cougars will take on the Bruceville-Eddy Eagles in a tournament on Friday. Leon will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Leon picked up another tournament win on Thursday. Everything went their way against Milano as they made off with a 15-2 victory. Considering the Cougars have won five games by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Brady Rohrer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Pace Thomas was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Truss Waldrip was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Leon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Milano only managed three.
Meanwhile, Bruceville-Eddy came up short against Iola on Thursday, falling 9-2. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Leon's record is now 8-0. As for Bruceville-Eddy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Bruceville-Eddy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Leon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .359. It's a different story for Bruceville-Eddy, though, as they've only averaged .193. Will they be able to contain Leon's hitters?
Everything went Leon's way against Bruceville-Eddy in their previous meeting back in March of 2025, as Leon made off with a 16-8 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
