The Rock Canyon Jaguars will head out to square off against the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Rock Canyon is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Douglas County: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Rock Canyon blew Douglas County out of the water with a 78-48 final score. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Jaguars had established a 20 point advantage.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Rock Canyon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jacob David, who went 10 of 12 on his way to 24 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kasen Lehman, who went 9 for 13 en route to 19 points and six boards.
Rock Canyon was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.
Meanwhile, Mountain Vista entered their tilt with Legend on Tuesday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They were the clear victor by an 86-60 margin over the Titans. Given the Golden Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while the Titans are ranked 42nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mountain Vista's win came from a few key players Rock Canyon will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Cal Baskind, who went 8 of 13 on his way to 21 points. His evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Payson Land was another key player, putting up 11 points and five rebounds.
Rock Canyon pushed their record up to 9-9 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.7 points per game. As for Mountain Vista, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.
Friday's game is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Rock Canyon just can't miss this season, having made 47.2% of their shots per game. However, it's not like Mountain Vista struggles in that department as they've made 50.4% of their field goals this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Rock Canyon came up short against Mountain Vista when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 67-54. Can Rock Canyon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
