The Wilson Prep Tigers are still winless after their matchup against the Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars on Tuesday, but the team can take solace in the fact it was the closest they've come to winning. Wilson Prep fell just short of Rocky Mount Prep by a score of 47-44. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wilson Prep in their matchups with Rocky Mount Prep: they've now lost three in a row.
Wilson Prep's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Niiyana Edwards, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Edwards has scored all season. Janiya Johnson was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 19 rebounds.
It was another big night for Niylee Bullock, who scored 17 points for Rocky Mount Prep. That makes it four consecutive games in which Bullock has scored at least 25% of Rocky Mount Prep's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rakia Brinkley, who scored eight points.
Wilson Prep's loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 0-5. As for Rocky Mount Prep, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wilson Prep will square off against Northwest Halifax at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Northwest Halifax will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line. Rocky Mount Prep's road trip will continue as they head out to face North Edgecombe at 6:00 p.m. on December 15th. North Edgecombe is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 61.2 points per game.
