The Gunnison Cowboys's game last Saturday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They walked away with a 35-25 win over Aspen. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Gunnison also won the last time the pair played two weeks ago.
Sienna Gomez was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Eden Williams, who scored eight points.
Aspen lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Fiona Benvenuto, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Benvenuto pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ambler Henderson, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Gunnison's victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Aspen, their defeat was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-9.
Gunnison won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Cedaredge at 12:30 p.m. on January 27th. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Carley Malinowski and Gomez. As for Aspen, they will head out on the road to challenge Basalt at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
