Santa Ynez won the last time they faced San Marcos, and things went their way on Friday, too. Everything went Santa Ynez's way against San Marcos as they made off with a 48-27 win. The Pirates were expected to win, but the margin was definitely larger than the rankings had forecast.
Logan Ast was the offensive standout of the game for the Pirates, as he rushed for 135 yards and two TDs on 16 carries. That nimble footwork stands out as the first time Ast has hit the 100-yard rushing mark this season. Ast's sharp night also set his single-game touchdown high for the season. Additional support came from defensive powerhouse Mikey Gills, who racked up 12 tackles.
Santa Ynez's defense was a presence as well, and it made life painful for the quarterback and embarrassed San Marcos' offensive line for a total of seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Dean Tipolt and Tyler Germani, who each racked up 2.5 sacks.
San Marcos might have lost, but man -- Ben Partee was a total machine. He accumulated 334 passing yards and picked up 74 yards on the ground on seven carries.
The victory bumped Santa Ynez's record up to 4-6. San Marcos' loss makes it three in a row and drags their record down to 3-7. Both of these squads appear to have finished up the season, as they have no upcoming games scheduled.
