Trinity Valley dropped to 5-6 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 11-5 to the South Hills Scorpions. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Trojans of the 13-8 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2025.
Trinity Valley saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tappan Bailey, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those RBI marked the first that Bailey has brought in this season.
As for South Hills, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-7. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.
On South Hills' side, Gustavo Cortina and Kevin Ruiz made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Cortina tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Ruiz pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Cortina has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Cortina went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Ruiz went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave Ruiz a new career-high.
In other batting news, South Hills got a big performance out of Omar Vazquez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Vazquez has become a key player for the Scorpions: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Dimas Tostado, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Trinity Valley will welcome Oakridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Owls will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for South Hills, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Bowie at 12:00 p.m.
