The Buckeye Hawks scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They blew past Copper Canyon 79-33 at home. Buckeye has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 30 points or more this season.
Leading Buckeye to victory were Isabel Ramirez and Amayah Leyva. Ramirez dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds, while Leyva dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ramirez has scored all season. Mikalah Tensley was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven assists and five rebounds.
Copper Canyon's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Bri'ann Felix, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds, and Zalaya Dupre who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and four blocks. That was a full 60.6% of Copper Canyon's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Copper Canyon struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Buckeye racked up 20 assists.
The victory (which was Buckeye's fifth in a row) raised their record to 12-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.6 points per game. As for Copper Canyon, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Buckeye will stay at home for another game and welcome Independence at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. Independence has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Copper Canyon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Glendale at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Glendale is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
