This season hasn't been kind to The Southwood Cowboys, who are still winless after their tenth match. They were dealt a 47-8 defeat at the hands of Airline on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Southwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 239th, while Airline is ranked 24th).
Ben Taylor was his usual excellent self, throwing for 320 yards and four touchdowns while completing 80.6% of his passes. Taylor is on a roll when it comes to passing yards, as he's now passed for 300 or more in the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson Broom, who gained 83 total yards and two touchdowns.
Southwood's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 0-10. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-1 Captain Shreve (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.5% over those games). As for Airline, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.
Southwood does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Airline will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Thibodaux at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th.
