Football Recap: Girard Extends Winning Streak to Three + How To Watch

Girard extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 3-0. They blew past the Edgewood Warriors 48-27. Fans of the Indians have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Girard's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from AJ Pearson, who rushed for 221 yards and three TDs while picking up 9.6 yards per carry, and also threw for 127 yards and one touchdown. Those 221 rushing yards gave Pearson a new career-high. Sam Scott was Pearson's top target, picking up nine receiving yards and one score, while also rushing for 116 yards and a pair of TDs on only seven carries.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Girard proved: they limited Edgewood to a paltry 3.3 yards per carry. The team can thank Rodney Robinson for the heroic effort on defense: he. Girard didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.8.

Girard's defense also made the game a nightmare for JJ Dufour., racking up seven sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as seven different players picked up one apiece. Allen Hess-Cardona was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 11 total tackles.

Having lost for the first time this season, Edgewood fell to 2-1. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 320th, while Girard is ranked 152nd).

Edgewood's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dufour, who threw for 170 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in one score on the ground. The Warriors' leading receiver Devon Sanchez was Dufour's top target yet again, picking up 75 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Coming up, Girard will be playing at home against Struthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup will give the Indians their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Edgewood, they will venture away from home to take on Lutheran West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
