The Somerset Academy Key Lions waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They strolled past Sports Leadership & Management with points to spare, taking the game 78-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Nick Achille was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds. It was the first time this season that he pulled down eight or more rebounds. Anthony Thomas was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Sports Leadership & Management saw an underclassman step up: Dennis Pierre scored 35 points. That was a full 57.4% of Sports Leadership & Management's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Mason Plewinski, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Somerset Academy Key has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-13 record this season. As for Sports Leadership & Management, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Somerset Academy Key will take on the Defenders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sports Leadership & Management, they and the Warriors will face off at 5:00 p.m. on January 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Trinity Christian Academy will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
