Jayson Hazley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. East Nashville Magnet is undefeated when Hazley posts two or more stolen bases, but 6-7 otherwise.
In other batting news, Calvin Bibby was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chauncey Anthony, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
East Nashville Magnet was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Hillsboro gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Overton as they made off with a 10-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Burros.
Cyrus Conner made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Conner was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-5.
In other batting news, Drake McDowell and Michael Gooch, Jr did most of the damage at the plate: McDowell scored two runs while going 3-for-5, while Gooch, Jr scored three runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Andrew Hull was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI.
East Nashville Magnet pushed their record up to 9-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Hillsboro, their victory bumped their record up to 16-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. East Nashville Magnet has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hillsboro struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
