Softball Recap: Apopka Wins Going Away Against Cornerstone Charter Academy

After losing to Cornerstone Charter Academy the last time they met, Apopka decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Blue Darters put the hurt on the Ducks with a sharp 13-1 victory on Wednesday. The Blue Darters might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by six runs or more this season.

Ava Millspaugh looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Taylor Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Skyla Durand, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Apopka was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cornerstone Charter Academy only posted a batting average of .167.

Apopka is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cornerstone Charter Academy, their loss ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Apopka will welcome Lake Buena Vista at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Cornerstone Charter Academy, they will be playing at home against East Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Ducks' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
