Even though The Academy for Classical Education Gryphons scored an imposing 51 points on Thursday, the Southwest Patriots still came out on top. In a tight match that could have gone either way, Southwest made off with a 52-51 win over Academy for Classical Education. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Southwest.
Leading Southwest to victory were Carmelo Mays and Chase Dupree. Mays picked up 261 receiving yards and four touchdowns, while Dupree threw for 415 yards and seven touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Steve Robinson, who picked up 86 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
When it comes to explaining why Academy for Classical Education lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aaron Davis. Despite the final result, he rushed for 181 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Davis really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run. Kaleb Scarbary was another key contributor, throwing for 253 yards and three touchdowns.
Southwest's win was their third straight at home , which pushed their record up to 6-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.3 points per game. As for Academy for Classical Education, their loss dropped their record down to 8-2.
Southwest will head out on the road to face off against Central at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Academy for Classical Education, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Spencer at 7:30 p.m. on November 3rd. Spencer will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
