While the Baker Hornets's victory against the Theodore Bobcats wasn't quite the blowout they won the last time the pair played, they still came away the winners. Baker had just enough and edged Theodore out 65-62. Given Baker's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while Theodore is ranked 91st), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Baker's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dashawn Thomas, who went 7 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 27 points and 1 assist. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thomas has scored all season. Derrick Florence lll was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
The win (which was Baker's third in a row) raised their record to 19-7. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Theodore, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Baker will take on Mary G. Montgomery at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Erik Washington and Florence lll. As for Theodore, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Murphy at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Hopefully Murphy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
