The Morgan Trojans's 21-6 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 48-37 loss to Skyridge. While losing is never fun, Morgan can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while Skyridge is ranked 13th).
Morgan lost on Thursday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kaydence Wardell, who scored three points along with seven steals. Wardell has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Abby Titus, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Merceius Mili was her usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with six rebounds and five steals for Skyridge. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for her. Shae Toole was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven assists and six rebounds.
Morgan's loss was their seventh straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-10. As for Skyridge, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.
Morgan's road trip will continue as they head out to face Ogden at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th. Hopefully Ogden focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday. Skyridge won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Raymond (Alberta) at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th.
