The Santa Fe Indian Braves are taking a road trip to challenge the Estancia Bears at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Santa Fe Indian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Santa Fe Indian is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering St. Michael's just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They fell 5-1 to the Horsemen. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Braves couldn't push the score so high this time.
Isabella Galvan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Santa Fe Indian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kayden Fragua-Abeyta, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Estancia waltzed into their match on Saturday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 8-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won eight contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Jhenna Valencia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Valencia was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Estancia let Peyton Looper and Molli Garcia run wild. Looper scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Garcia scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
The defeat was their first at home , dropping their record down to 11-6. As for Estancia, their record now sits at 10-2.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Santa Fe Indian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Estancia struggles in that department as they've averaged .486. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Santa Fe Indian beat Estancia 6-1 in their previous meeting back in March of 2016. Will the Braves repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
