Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Cherryville walked away with it. They blew past the Langtree Charter Academy Lions 6-0 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Ironmen, who have now won 12 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Brock Bumgardner made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Kenan Fowler was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Talon Dalton, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Cherryville is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 19 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season.
