Rock Island is 9-1 against Quincy since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Rocks will face off against the Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. The last three games Rock Island has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Rock Island is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Minooka just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Indians by a score of 7-5.
Ella DeJonghe made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Ella Leahy was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Quincy). Everything went their way against Granite City on Saturday as they made off with a 17-7 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Blue Devils sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
The team relied heavily on Ivy Winter, who went 4-for-5 with five runs, two triples, and two stolen bases. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Avary Hlubek, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Quincy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Quincy's win bumped their record up to 9-15. As for Rock Island, their loss dropped their record down to 18-9.
Quincy's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Rock Island has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Quincy, though, as they've been averaging only 3 strikeouts. Will Rock Island keep running through batters, or will the Blue Devils buck the trend?
Rock Island skirted past Quincy 1-0 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rocks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
