Maize is 3-0 against Liberal since October of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Maize Eagles are on the road again and play against the Liberal Redskins at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Thursday, Maize earned a 31-22 victory over Goddard. Maize's offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
The critical scores for Maize came from Bryson Hayes, Jaeden Martin, and Brayden Myovela.
Meanwhile, Liberal got themselves on the board against Newton on Friday, but Newton never followed suit. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Railroaders 44-0 at home. The result was nothing new for Liberal, who have now won four contests by 20 points or more so far this season.
It was another big night for J. Brooks kappelmann, who threw for 271 yards and three touchdowns while completing 82.4% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Ivan Moreno, who rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
Their wins bumped Maize to 4-5 and Liberal to 8-1.
Everything came up roses for Maize against Liberal when the teams last played back in October of 2020 as the team secured a 55-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Maize since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
