The Whiting Oilers will head out on the road to take on the Gary West Side Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Whiting will be strutting in after a win while Gary West Side will be coming in after a defeat.
Whiting scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They walked away with a 69-56 win over Hammond Bishop Noll. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Whiting to victory, but perhaps none more so than Victoria Velez, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Velez has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. Alyssa Quinones was another key contributor, scoring 25 points.
Meanwhile, Gary West Side's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They took a hard 46-27 fall against Highland. While losing is never fun, Gary West Side can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 380th, while Highland is ranked 150th).
The victory makes it two in a row for Whiting and bumps their season record up to 7-11-1. As for Gary West Side, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-15.
