The O'Connor Panthers will face off against the Brennan Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. O'Connor will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
On Friday, O'Connor was able to grind out a solid victory over Harlan, taking the game 8-3.
Faith Mayfield spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Araceli Alonzo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella De Luna, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
O'Connor hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 31 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Brennan didn't have quite enough to beat Harlan on Tuesday and fell 5-4.
Olivia Cardenas was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Emma Martinez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Brennan now has a losing record of 9-10. As for O'Connor, their win bumped their record up to 18-4.
Everything went O'Connor's way against Brennan when the teams last played back in February, as O'Connor made off with an 8-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
