The McLean County Cougars lost against the Hancock County Hornets back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. McLean County opened the new year with a less-than-successful 58-50 defeat to Hancock County. McLean County has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, McLean County saw an underclassman step up: Anna Miller scored 20 points along with four steals. Miller scored a full 40% of McLean County's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Ava Lannum, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three blocks.
McLean County has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Hancock County, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-9.
McLean County's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Trigg County at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. Hancock County will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Owensboro Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on January 8th. One thing working in Owensboro Catholic's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matches.
