The Maryknoll Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Punahou Buff n' Blue at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Maryknoll not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 9, 2024. Their pitcher stepped up to hand 'Iolani a 10-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won four in a row.
Kasi Cruz made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Cruz was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Maryknoll got a massive performance out of Kyla Abad, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Sheyzhelle Iokia was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs.
Maryknoll was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Punahou put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victors by a 14-7 margin over Mid-Pacific Institute. The Buff n' Blue's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Punahou let Taryn Ho and Sydney Capello run wild. Ho went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI, while Capello went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that Capello launched this season. Another player making a difference was Fa'Atam?li'I (Li'I) Brown, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Maryknoll now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Punahou, their record now sits at 5-0.
Maryknoll couldn't quite get it done against Punahou when the teams last played on Saturday as they fell 5-1. Can Maryknoll avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
