This season hasn't been kind to the Belleview Christian Bruins, who are still winless after their ninth game. They fell 32-22 to Denver Waldorf on Thursday. Belleview Christian was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Denver Waldorf apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Belleview Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Samantha Ortega, who scored five points along with seven steals. Ortega is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Ivy Esch was another key contributor, scoring three points along with seven steals and six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Belleview Christian were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Denver Waldorf only pulled down two offensive rebounds.
Denver Waldorf was led to victory by Lara Gregory and Sula Schuyler. Gregory scored ten points along with three steals, while Schuyler scored ten points along with five steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Schuyler has scored at least 25% of Denver Waldorf's points.
Belleview Christian's loss dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Denver Waldorf, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Belleview Christian will take on Front Range Baptist at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Front Range Baptist focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 back in December of 2023. Denver Waldorf will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Mile High Academy at 5:30 p.m. on January 22nd.
