Baseball Game Preview: Boylan Catholic Titans vs. Johnsburg Skyhawks

The Boylan Catholic Titans will venture away from home to face off against the Johnsburg Skyhawks at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Boylan Catholic gave up the first runs last Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They skirted past Marian Central Catholic 5-3. The win continues a trend for the Titans in their matchups with the Hurricanes: they've now won four in a row.

Owen Scandroli looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Boylan Catholic is 2-1 when Scandroli allows one or fewer earned runs, but 2-5 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Anthony Scalise, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Mott, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

While Johnsburg didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-25), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Dakota on Tuesday, sneaking past 3-2. The victory was familiar territory for the Skyhawks, who have now won four contests in a row.

Dom Vallone was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. He also put up two doubles, which were his first of the season.

Johnsburg pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Boylan Catholic, their record is now 4-6.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Boylan Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Johnsburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
