The Southwest Dragons lost against the McCollum Cowboys back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Southwest lost to the Cowboys on the road by a decisive 60-42 margin. Southwest has not had much luck with the Cowboys recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Southwest lost, one person who can't be blamed is Stephanie Gonzalez. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Ilee Robinson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Gabriella Gamboa continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for McCollum, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 21 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gamboa has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoey Yanez, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Southwest's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 15-19. As for McCollum, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 28-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southwest will take on the Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Gabryela Galvan and Lillian Covarrubias. As for McCollum, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Medina Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 587th, while the Cowboys are ranked 117th).
