The Berlin Brothersvalley Mountaineers will square off against the Rockwood Rockets at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Berlin Brothersvalley will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Rockwood's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Monday: Berlin Brothersvalley hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Mountaineers never let Meyersdale get on the board and left with a 9-0 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Mountaineers, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
Elena Ritchey and Sam Walker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Ritchey pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Walker didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Ritchey has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. At the plate, Ritchey went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Walker went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Coral Prosser was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. Elsie Barna was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Berlin Brothersvalley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Meyersdale only posted a batting average of .045.
Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Rockwood was a bit more limited in their match on Thursday. They fell 6-2 to Windber.
Kalynne Ohler made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Berlin Brothersvalley pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Rockwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
Rockwood's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Berlin Brothersvalley has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Rockwood, though, as they've been averaging 12.2 hits. Given Berlin Brothersvalley's sizable advantage in that area, the Rockets will need to find a way to close that gap.
Berlin Brothersvalley took their victory against Rockwood in their previous matchup last Tuesday by a conclusive 14-2 score. Do the Mountaineers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rockets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
