The Yutan Chieftains had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.5 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They came out on top against Syracuse by a score of 45-35. Given Yutan's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while the Rockets are ranked 98th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Yutan found their leader in underclassman Mylee Tichota, who scored ten points along with five assists and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna Benjamin, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Yutan's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-2. As for Syracuse, their loss dropped their record down to 10-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Yutan will take on the Clippers at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Malcolm is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 51.1 points per game this season. As for Syracuse, they will head out on the road to challenge the at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Logan View/Scribner-Snyder focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday.
