The Grainger Grizzlies will head out to take on the Jefferson County Patriots at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Grainger is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.2 runs per game this season.
Grainger gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on Cumberland Gap with a sharp 15-9 victory. The Grizzlies haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Grainger got a massive performance out of Amanda Kledzik, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. The dominant performance gave Kledzik a new career-high in doubles. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Sturgill, who scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-5.
Meanwhile, Jefferson County had just enough and edged out Sevier County 5-4 on Monday.
Olivia Mottern spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on McKaylee Hobby, who scored a run while going 4-for-4. Bella Watson also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Jefferson County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sevier County only managed two hits.
Grainger's record now sits at 3-1. As for Jefferson County, their record now sits at an identical 3-1.
Jefferson County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Grainger has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .458. It's a different story for Jefferson County, though, as they've only averaged .317. Will they be able to contain Grainger's hitters?
Grainger took their victory against Jefferson County in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 8-2. Will Grainger repeat their success, or does Jefferson County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
