The Elkhorn North Wolves will challenge the Norris Titans at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Elkhorn North is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Elkhorn North is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nebraska's top teams: Gretna East, who was ranked 16th at the time (Elkhorn North was ranked seventh). The Wolves sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Griffins on Saturday.
Elkhorn North got a great performance from Jack Settles as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 4.2 innings pitched. Settles has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Elkhorn North's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Austin McMurtry, who went 2-for-5 with one run and one double. Another was Quincy Grabenstein, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one double.
Waverly hit Norris with a six-run third inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Titans took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vikings. The Titans haven't had much luck with the Vikings recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Aleks Lewis was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, Maddox Krivolavek made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Elkhorn North's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Norris, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-13.
Norris' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Elkhorn North hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. It's a different story for Norris, though, as they've only averaged .242. Will they be able to contain Elkhorn North's hitters?
Elkhorn North couldn't quite get it done against Norris in their previous meeting back in May of 2025 as they fell 4-1. Will the Wolves have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
